The “2nd European Summit: "Cloud Computing and Education: The Future" was held on Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November 2015 in Palermo, Sicily, bringing together educators and innovators from around Europe.

Participants had the opportunity to attend an international event featuring sessions and keynote addresses focused on discussing Cloud based futures and methodologies for education. CESIE President Vito la Fata opened the Summit, with a warm welcome. Karl Donert, Director at Innovative Learning Network ltd, in his speech presenting the “SoC: Overview and Progress” provided an account of some activities of the European School on the Cloud network, talked about the "State of the Art - Case Studies" publication and focused on issues related to the project.

Keynote speakers, Gianna Cappello, Associate Professor at the University of Palermo, talked about “Challenging the Cloud: A Media Education Perspective”, using Cloud Services, followed by Maria R. Malmierca from the Galicia Supercomputing Centre (CESGA), who presented “Rural School Cloud Project”.

Professor Kostis Koutsopoulos, NTUA, Vice President at EUROGEO, talked about WG 4 and Future Methodologies explaining the attempt to work with those who are concerned with the futures inquiry and its implications, to generate a set of plausible divergent future worlds. He mentioned Delphi Method, a process aiming at collecting and distilling knowledge from a group of experts through the use of a series of questionnaires. Silvia Ciaperoni, European Cooperation Department Coordinator at CESIE, continued with Six Thinking Hats: a method of going through decisions from different perspectives, enabling participants to move outside their habitual intellectual pattern.

The 2nd day started with Gerhard Doppler, bit media e-Learning solution GmbH, giving interesting information on EEXCESS Project and Jens Vermeersch, Internationalisation Officer GO!, analyzing TACCLE Projects. Both days, participants took part in workshops using Delphi and Six Thinking Hats methods in order to support creative problem- solving, and the generation of new ideas. Carmelo Pollichino, Soad Ibrahim, Rita Quisillo and Irene Pizzo, trainers and Project Managers at CESIE, effectively facilitated the workshops and organised the 2-day SoC Summit.

CESIE, a School on the Cloud Partner, based in Palermo, successfully hosted the meeting with the support of Doukas School staff, Panos Papoutsis, Project Manager, Chryssanthe Sotiriou, High School EFL Coordinator, Hercules Panoutsopoulos, Maths Teacher at Doukas High School, Yannis Kotsanis, Head of the ICT Department, and Vassilis Economou, ICT Manager, creator of the SoC site.
